You’re looking for some ideas for gifts for speech therapists, maybe for a holiday or national speech language pathologist day? That’s so sweet! Thank you so much for caring and for letting us be a part of your lives!
Being a speech therapist is hard work. The SLPs I know and have gotten to know work so hard for each and every child to help them succeed. There can be some not-so-fun aspects of the job, but we really just want to do our job and do it well!
So if you’re looking for ideas, maybe for national speech pathologist day (May 18th!), during the holidays, or end of school year appreciation, I’ve reached out to my readers to find out what SLPs really want.
SLP Must Haves
There are a few things that most people consider to be SLP must haves. The reality is that most SLPs spend their own money on their jobs to make it easier and motivating for their kids. We really do care about our kids and when they are having fun, we are having fun! If the speech therapist in your life doesn’t have one of these, I’m sure they would love one:
#8: Fun Office Supplies
Hopefully your SLP has a well-stocked office, but even still, there are some office supplies we go through a lot. Flair pens are fun for SLPs and their students to brighten up those worksheets!
#7: Amazon Gift card (toys, books, etc)
Whether your SLP needs to replenish their versatile speech therapy materials, stock up on toys or books for therapy, or treat themselves to something nice, an Amazon gift card usually fits the bill!
#6: Tote bag
SLPs have a lot of stuff, and a lot of us travel around and need to lug that stuff around with us. If your SLP doesn’t have a quality tote bag, that would be a wonderful gift.
#5: Teachers pay Teachers gift card
It will come as no surprise that I’m a huge fan of Teachers pay Teachers (TpT) for therapy materials. Most SLPs I know are too. Want some materials to target a new goal for a student? Head on over to TpT! Need something cute to go along with the classroom theme? TpT’s gotta have something!
Gifts to say happy speech language pathologist appreciation day
May 18th is national SLP appreciation day! If you want to make a speech therapist feel special, reach out and say thank you on Speech Language Pathologist appreciation day.
#4: Treats and Goodies
Many schools now have Favorite lists for staff so anyone who wants to send a little sunshine can know just what would make someone smile. Most SLPs I know are just grateful to be noticed and appreciated, but it’s extra special when someone takes the time to look up your favorite treat (and with food allergies and special diets, it’s nice to give something that works for that person).
#3: Tumbler
SLPs gotta stay hydrated on-the-go – it’s good for maintaining good vocal quality after all. There are tons of cute personalized tumblers available on Etsy, or if you’re crafty, you could make your own.
#2: Restaurant Gift cards
Why does food taste so much better when it’s free? Everybody’s gotta eat! (Even better if you can find out one of their favorite restaurants!)
The number 1 gift for speech therapists
I asked SLPs all over the world what their favorite SLP gifts have been and the most common answer was…. a heartfelt note of appreciation!
Many SLPs have tiny therapy spaces and they don’t have a lot of storage for all the cute things we collect or people give us. We have to save that room for therapy materials! So really, anything thoughtful or heartfelt is very welcome and appreciated.
Some SLPs I know who work in the schools get gifts or notes of appreciation during teacher appreciation week or during holidays or the end of the school year. But not all! And secondary SLPs in middle schools and high schools might see even less appreciation since the students have so many other teachers at that point. And while many schools will celebrate weeks for their administration, nurses, teachers, lunch workers, and custodial crews, and more, they don’t always have anything special for the SLPs. And SLPs just want to be noticed and appreciated too!
So, truly, we’re just happy to be acknowledged! A short, personal note would bring a smile to any SLPs face!
So those are my recommendations!! If I missed anything you think an SLP would love, please leave a comment and I’ll add it! Have fun shopping!

Love this! I’m a speech language pathology student and I just order the tumbler for 2 SLPs that I’ve been observing and are role models for me. 🙂
