Visual schedules are a tool I can’t live without. Nearly every single group of mine uses a visual schedule so they know what to expect each session.
Planning is a critical component of all of my therapy sessions. I make plans with my students every day, every session, and for every activity and skill.
My top tip for planning is to start each session with it! I begin each session with going over the plan for the day or making one collaboratively.
I also love planning really specific steps for tricky skills including “how we clean up this game” or “how to write a paragraph”.
Once, I was called to come support a student of mine that was upset and was unsafe in the classroom. I showed up and he looked up and me, took a deep breath, and said “We’re going to make a plan, aren’t we?”.
I hope that all of the students on your caseload build that same awareness of the importance of planning as this student of mine. ❤️
Planning and following a series of steps to meet a goal is important in life, social relationships, academic classes, and getting what you want and need!
