    I primarily use the boom card version of this activity. This resource is nicely leveled with characteristics to compare and contrast already written out. There is just a little bit of text for my low-level readers to practice reading and they love debating and talking about where each characteristics should go on the Venn diagram.

    This is great-my kids absolutely love boom cards, and using them to do something ‘boring’ like comparing items, makes it so much more fun. After we discuss, compare and contrast items, we then discuss other items from the same categories, and continue the discussion and describing for entire sessions.     This boom card set was an eye-opener for my student with learning and attentional difficulties who was struggling to understand how to compare. Having the information ready for her to sort into the Venn diagram was exactly what she needed. It took a few rounds of comparisons before she really understood how to do it, but now she flies independently. She’s confidently generating her own similarities and differences. Yippee!

    I have used this resource with several learners who struggled with a wide variety of language difficulties and I have been astonished to see how this resource helped them. They were immediately interested in the various signs and wanted to find out how they were used. This is the one resource where I never have any complaints about having to write. I have no idea why, but my learners are all intrigued, motivated and proud of what they were able to do. Perhaps because it looks so ‘adult’, as one of the boys said. I have even used the resource to teach Afrikaans sentence writing!
