  • Reviews (612)

This resource targets simple sequencing and story retell. It includes 24 cards in total that you can on the Boom Learning™️ (Boom Cards™️) platform.

There are 12 cards where your student can drag images into the correct sequential order and 12 cards with a short story your students can retell (while dragging and dropping the images into the correct sequence).

The cards cycle through these two formats: first there is a drag and drop sequence card and then the next card will contain a short story using the same sequence.

All of the sequences include 4 steps and target the words “first”, “next”, “then”, and “last” to retell the steps or the story.

Some examples of sequences targeted in this resource are: baking a cake, doing the laundry, mailing a letter, how a flower grows, how to dive into a pool, and how a bird makes a nest.

Because these are Boom Cards™️, they work really well for teletherapy or digital speech therapy. You can read more about Boom cards below or on their website.

Story re-telling and sequencing is often difficult for my autistic son. He tends to listen to instructions, but only hears the last two. He is every bit a visual learner, so this has been an absolute great resource for him. Thanks!

These cards were exactly what was missing from my resources! It helps develop sequencing, use of first/the/next/last, past tense, increases verb vocabulary and the double system of sequencing then story was well thought out and expanded student knowledge! I will be using this a lot! Money well spent!

  23. Rated 5 out of 5

    Amy T. – June 11, 2020

I like that there is an option for students to sequence the pictures based solely on the pictures which indicates whether the student has the internal representation of the sequence involved in everyday activities. There is also, for the same picture sequences, stories to go with the pictures for those students who need that. This tool can address both receptive and expressive sequencing goals depending on the student’s level and need. Thank you!

    Jacklyn H. – June 25, 2020

this is definitely my new “go to” activity for students working on a variety of skills, not just sequencing. I really like the printed stories and having the students give me a retell of events. It is also great for having them answer “wh” questions about each picture, and for describing each picture with complete sentences when using the sequence pictures without the printed stories. Not to mention, for sentence imitation. There are so many ways to use this resource; and there are lots of stories to choose from, making it easy to use with the same student on multiple sessions without repetition if needed. LOVE IT!!!

This resource has been great to have and I’m going to continue using it when I am back in my classroom. Quite a few of my students have a retelling goal, and this has been engaging for them. I travel between campuses and it is nice to not have to transport many materials. In fact, the older I get, the less physical materials I seem to bring to my campus(es)! Thx!

This is a great boom card resource. The sequences are all 4-steps and the pictures are easy to differentiate.
One suggestion though… I would like it if the boom cards were separated into two decks: one with just the picture sequences, the other with the short stories and sequences.

Clear pictures; I like that I can use this resource for multiple goals- retelling, sequencing, answering wh-questions, fluency, and articulation carryover to name a few. I’m very picky about what Boom cards I purchase and this was a good one.

For the Love of Speech – August 5, 2020

I am always looking for good story retell and/or step sequencing stories. I would say the cards in this deck focus mostly on sequencing the steps in an activity as opposed to retelling the events in a story. One of my students has a hard time differentiating between pictures with slight differences, so we had the opportunity to work on looking carefully at the pictures and comparing/contrasting them to determine which picture best represented the sentence in the story. This resource offers both a picture level and a story level – I personally only use the story level, but I could see how the picture level would allow for a higher-level skill of story generation.

Great resource to use with students working on sequencing and story comprehension! The visuals help a lot, and then adding in the story helps then put words to the picture. After they get that, Ill do the story again another day without just the pictures first. Its been very helpful in targeting transition works as well!

I also use open-eded questions to expand the activity. As a level up for students after we’ve done the two slides, I wish I could have one or two pictures in the sequence and see if they can fill in the rest themselves or tell me what steps or pictures are missing…just a thought.

This was an incredible activity during a remote day. I thoroughly enjoyed the ability to read the short story to my students and then have them sequence the events. Also was a wonderful tool for families to work on with their child.

I do use this resource again and again for sequencing but I reverse the order of the slides for presentation (reading them the story first, then having them sequence the pics).

    Kay S. – November 24, 2023

I like the pictures and the stories with more events/differentiated steps (i.e. washing clothes). The stories that highlight only one task (i.e. tying shoes) aren’t as helpful as the steps are very specific and difficult to retell even for myself. In these examples, the text isn’t really a story but more like a description of a task.
