This themed language therapy unit includes a wide variety of materials and resources for your students with language goals using a fun and engaging SPIDER theme!
In this unit, there are materials directly targeting the following areas:
- Core vocabulary (up, look)
- Basic concepts (small, many)
- Describing (spiders)
- Tier 2 vocabulary (catch, dangerous, harm, benefit)
- Prefix/suffix (dis-, -ous)
- Inferencing/predicting
- Sentence combining
- Comprehending narrative texts
- Comprehending non-fiction texts
- WH questions
- Comparing and contrasting
- Sharing opinions & opinion writing (spider themed)
This resource is intended to give your themed therapy material collection a boost with targeted, explicit activities, visuals, and worksheets. Think of it like a starter toolkit that will guide your therapy planning for ~2-4 weeks depending on your caseload and therapy style.
All of the worksheets include editable text boxes so that you can type directly on the worksheet on a computer. In addition, Google Slidesâ˘ď¸ versions of the worksheets are also included!
This unit also includes a deck of Boom cardsâ˘ď¸ that relate to many of the activities in this resource!

I used it for 3 weeks in October and still have so many pages of this unit I did not get to. Teachers were impressed seeing the affix lessons attached to the theme. The bonus materials also gave me some ideas to make the lessons into games that the kids loved (such finding the hidden spiders around the room, making a web with tape on the floor to incorporate movement). I love all of the resources from Speechy Musings as they are well thought out, research based and engaging for kids. This one is no exception. I love using the themed units as a base of my monthly planning. I know that with these units I will be able to work on any language goal for any student on my caseload because of how she includes a multitude of scaffolded practice. She mixes a variety of activities (fictional story, informational text, vocabulary, sentence building, sorts, basic concepts, etc. The vocabulary is carefully selected and topic-relevant which felt more grown-up to my older clients, but the other activities including more basic ideas that they could feel confident about and still practice in the framework of something more age-appropriate.
