Semantic mapping, or describing different features of items (like their category, function, location, color, etc…), is an effective, research-supported way to increase vocabulary skills of your students!
This resource includes describing visuals, a blank describing/defining worksheet, and 70 one sheet, no-prep describing worksheets.
There is also a blank describing worksheet included so that you can customize the worksheets with motivating, interesting, or themed items to describe for your own caseload.
Last, the entire resource is included in a Google Slidesâ˘ď¸ format to make teletherapy or distance learning even easier!
The objects shown on the worksheets are all nouns from the following categories:
Animals, toys, vehicles, plants, insects, tools, electronics, clothing, food, furniture, body parts, places, sports, and instruments.

I used the samples of the one sheet picture describing last spring and they were so helpful! The students loved typing in the edible boxes (the students and I would take turns). After we answered all of the questions, we typed up a short paragraph with a topic sentence and detailed sentences. This is such an awesome activity! I have multiple students working on describing attributes by place, function, etc. and this activity checks all the boxes!! I printed everything out, laminated them, put them in a thin binder and I use a white board marker and eraser so my client and I can brainstorm together. At the end of my sessions I just erase the marker and pack it away. I also love the sentence strip at the bottom to allow the client the opportunity to gather everything and then piece it together in a sentence.
