If your students flew through the original Digital Describing & Defining for Speech Therapy, I’ve got great news—you can keep the progress going with this expansion pack.
This Digital Describing and Defining for Speech Therapy Expansion Pack gives your students fresh images, new vocabulary, and even greater flexibility with Google Slides and Boom Cards™️.
This resource is designed to explicitly teach describing and defining skills—two essential components of semantic development and expressive language.
Research shows that structured practice with attributes, categories, and sentence frames improves vocabulary retrieval, word relationships, and overall language processing.
Just like the original, this expansion pack is all about giving students structured, step-by-step practice with describing and defining skills.
This Digital Describing & Defining Expansion Pack Includes:

Answer Keys
With a mix of real photos and simple icons, this resource supports students at various skill levels!
Level 1 – Describing Using 2-3 Attributes
First, students describe objects using two or three attributes. They’ll start simple—“A blanket is colorful and soft”—and then level up to longer descriptions like “A block is wooden, square, and hard.”
Level 2 – Defining Using Category + 1-2 Attributes
Next, students start defining words using a consistent sentence frame. They’ll learn to say things like, “A couch is furniture that you sit on” and then expand their definitions to include more details—“A truck is a vehicle that is big and carries things.”
In the first section of level two, you will create definitions with the category (group) plus one attribute including function, location, color, action, parts, or shape. In the second section, the difficulty increases as you will create definitions with the category plus two attributes.
Informal Assessment-15 open-ended slides
And because real progress happens when students can apply their skills independently, I’ve included 15 open-ended assessment slides to see what they can do without supports (no icons, no answer choices, and no visuals).
We listened to your feedback and made this resource better than ever!
Now, you’ll get:
✔️ NEW pictures & targets – more nouns for students to describe and define
✔️ Google Slides & Boom Cards™️ version – ideal for in-person or virtual therapy ✔️ An answer key – easy reference for quick checking
✔️ A video walkthrough – see exactly how to use this resource effectively
In a nutshell:
💡 Structured sentence frames make describing & defining easy for students
💡 Drag-and-drop + fill-in-the-blank activities keep students engaged
💡 Two digital formats (Boom Cards™️ & Google Slides) give you options
💡 Scaffolded levels allow for differentiation across abilities
💡 A built-in video walkthrough makes setup quick & simple
Use it with students working on descriptive language, categorization, attributes, and defining skills – whether they need direct instruction or independent practice!

Sorry, I tried to find where to email my question rather than leaving a review, but couldn’t find where to email you directly. I’m not sure if the Boomcard link is working? I know the webiste is finicky. There is a link that pops up and it directs me to my BoomLearning account, but it says I already own this product. But, what I have isn’t the expansion pack. So, I’m not sure this this link just updates what I currently have or if BoomLearning thinks it’s the same product? Thanks for clarification or suggestions on how to troubleshoot.

This deck is such a great way to work on defining and describing. For my younger kids, I just model the sentences. For my older kids, I explain to them that when someone says “what does this word mean,” this is an example of how you can define that word… simply by making a sentence like this. I’m never disappointed by Speechy Musings products.

This Boom Deck has been extremely helpful for my students who need to work on describing items using a variety of descriptors, but who have difficulty coming up with the vocabulary on their own.
