This Boom cards™️ resource is an interactive resource to target answering WH questions from short narrative and non-fiction texts. It’s perfect for your students who need help with reading comprehension and understanding that “who” means a person, “what” means a thing, “where” means a place, and so on.
There are 60 texts included in this resource: 30 narrative texts and 30 non-fiction texts.
Each card has a short text on a topic and 6 questions (1 for each WH question type) on the bottom. There is a who, what, when, where, why, and how question for each text. Then, there are 6 answer choices that your students can drag and drop to answer each question.

There aren’t very many good resources for working on language skills using text. I have kids with a variety of goals using text as the resource. This is a good option for distance learning. The paper resource has both the matching the question and answer and identical narratives with no answers available to the child. It would be nice to have cards with no matching answers to increase the difficulty level.

I really like this resource and his has great stimuli. It can be a bit visually cluttered if your student has difficulty with that, or if they are accessing your teletherapy session with a small screen. It works best on a laptop screen, and has some great passages included.

This resource has been a lifesaver for my older elementary students. I like that there are no pictures, because it was the next step of difficulty that I needed for a handful of my students. The visual on the bottom of each paragraph is perfect and the answer bank has helped them feel successful on a task that they cannot handle independently.
Allison B. –
Great resource for distance learning!
Courtney B. –
Great for teletherapy with older students! I love the images that are included in each questions blank! Good amount of passages included! Love that we can use the answer choices or not use them!

This activity has been GREAT to use with my students working on listening and reading comprehension. I do wish there was an option to HIDE the answers so my students could work on returning to the passage to find the answers when needed. However, for what it is, it’s fantastic and it worked extremely well for distance learning, and now in person learning.
Kris G. –

I LOVE that this includes nonfiction texts as well as fiction! What a great resource for teletherapy!

Great resource!!
Heather Miller –
This resource is so good for WH questions and simple story retell. I love the passages and the good questions that are asked. One thing that might be nice is having an option that allows you to hide the answers to the questions – it would add a whole new level of difficulty.

I use it regularly as a part of each session with grades 2 and 3 and it is so helpful. I had my principal drop in to observe and he noted that he liked how I gave the students a choice of narrative or non fiction and how the technology allowed me to support the students in an activity that tied in with core curriculum and literacy. Alison H. –
These are great for my speech students who are virtual and my in-person students
Nancy B. –
This is one of the best activities I have purchased. It is great for scaffolding WH questions from paragraphs. Students enjoy the stories. I like that it includes fiction and nonfiction. The included visual supports for question types are very helpful for students.
Carly D. –
These were perfect activities for my students while distance-learning that needed a little higher listening con tent. The only thing is I wish there was a version that didn’t have the multiple-choice answers to promote independent answering without cues. No big deal though! Thank you so much for this.
Laura S. –
A simple resource to use and my students found it a great way to practice finding information in a text quickly.

Love the drag and drop feature – the picture cues are great and I love the non-fiction options! I’ve been able to tie these in with themes with my social skills groups that have lead to great conversations – we just used the zoo paragraph, watched a zoo live cam, and practiced conversational turn taking and asking about favorite animals, etc. Thank you!
Nicole N. –

Carla W. –
Wonderfully organized and clear layout…THANKS!
Kristin Gomez –
I loved this!
Brittany D. –
This has been so helpful and useful with so many of my groups! I definitely recommend adding this resource to your collection!
Denise B. –
I have used this with groups who are working on WH that need the support of being able to see the answers. When I use it for distance learning, I can black out some of the answers to make it more difficult for groups that are ready for this. It would be great it there was a way to cover or “hide” certain responses or all responses to all a level of difficulty. I have been able to achieve this by blacking out answers. I have to do this quickly though, so the kids do not see the answers first. So, a faster way to conceal answers would be great. I still use it all the time and have found it very useful.
Valentina P. –
Great resource, the content is great and the layout of the material itself is easy to understand. My students enjoy being able to place the correct item over each question.
