Be prepared to save time and have more fun in speech this year! These speech and language therapy lesson plans for back to school and fall coverĀ TWELVE different back to school and fall themesĀ including: back to school, all about me, apples, fall, leaves, fire prevention, pumpkins, squirrels and nuts, on the farm, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and football.

For EACH theme, I have included two picture book titles, two crafts, and two activities. With 12 themes, that’sĀ 72 activitiesĀ in total! These activities and crafts are fairly simple, and can be completed using basic materials including tape, paper plates, construction paper, scissors, glue, etc. Each theme contains:

  • A theme overview page
  • 2 pages with names of each craft, activity, and book for the entire packet
  • 1 page overviews for each theme
  • Detailed pages for the crafts and activities for each theme; there is a real picture of each craft and activity as well as ideas for how to modify them to meet a variety of articulation and language goal areas!
  • Any additional printables for all of the crafts and activities

Included in the packet is:

  • Lesson plan file (78 pages)
  • Articulation mini cards file (72 pages)
  • Language mini cards file (17 pages)
  • Editable theme overview pages (13 pages)

All covering the following targets:

  • Sequencing
  • Describing

Many of the crafts utilize mini cards, which are also included in the packet. The articulation mini cards contain 35 cards each for p, b, m, h, w, y, d, n, t, k, g, ng, f, v, ch, j, l, s-blends, s, z, sh, th, and r. All sounds have initial, medial, and final pages except: h, w, y (only initial), ng (only final), and r. The r section has a page for initial r, as well as 1 page each for air, ar, ear, er, ire, and or.

The language mini packet contains cards targeting: verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and core vocabulary. There are 6 additional pages of cards containing pictures to describe (e.g., categories, function), compare and contrast, etc.

If thatā€™s not enough, Iā€™ve included an editable file so you can add in the materials YOU love to use in an ā€œOtherā€ box on each theme overview page.

These lesson plans work great for both individual and group sessions. I primarily work with children ages 1-8, with some older children who are minimally verbal or who use AAC. This works for my ENTIRE caseload, however I understand that this packet might not work for your entire caseload. If you have a child that you would do crafts, basic activities, and picture books with, I would recommend this product.

    These lesson plans are AMAZING! I’ve been trying to be more selective with my TpT purchases, since I’ve spent WAY too much recently, so when I initially purchased this, I felt some buyer’s remorse. That is, until I opened the packet and saw what a creative, thorough resource Shannon put together! I have never been able to incorporate crafts into therapy, despite buying many packets promising easy projects. With this packet, I can finally be crafty!! The projects really do use common supplies and they involve VERY minimal prep. Just print up some colorful artic/lang cards and many projects are ready to go! The projects/activities pair well with the recommended books and each ‘unit’ could easily span at least two weeks. The only change I’d like to see is more language cards added – verbs broken down by reg/irreg past tense, irreg/reg plurals, pronouns, prepositions, following directions, etc. This would truly make this packet usable for EVERY 3-7 year old on my caseload!! (And please make more plans for winter and spring!!)
