Jean F. –
What I love about this is that visual steps are on each sheet and guided questions are listed. Easy to use in sessions, and easy to send home for parents to implement and help with carryover. Everything from this author has been spot on with research, practical in application, and has been worth prep time I’ve spent.
**Honestly, tpt needs to change the review requirement so that it doesn’t say “not planning to use this”, my plan is to use this in the fall and I get a decent sense of the materials as they are prepped for use. If a resource isn’t looking good during prep…well, it’s not going in front of a kid in my room, frankly.

The “Target Perspective Taking and Making Inferences and Predictions Using Real Pictures” resource is a true gem for educators and speech-language pathologists seeking a comprehensive tool to develop critical thinking and inference skills in their students. With its real-life picture cards and structured strategy approach, this resource provides a dynamic and effective way to teach perspective taking, inference making, and prediction skills.
As an educator dedicated to fostering deep thinking and language development, I was thrilled to discover this resource, which offers 100 real-life picture cards that serve as windows into the world of making inferences. Each card is expertly designed to guide students through the “Look”, “Think”, “Infer”, “Predict” strategy. This strategy empowers students with a systematic approach to dissecting visual scenes, uncovering hidden meanings, and predicting future outcomes.
The integration of sentence starters alongside the visual strategy provides invaluable scaffolding, ensuring that students of various abilities can confidently engage with the material. This added support not only promotes critical thinking but also encourages students to articulate their thoughts clearly, promoting language growth in parallel.
The four thought-provoking questions on each card are a standout feature, driving students to delve deeper into the picture and consider the perspectives, emotions, and events depicted. This comprehensive questioning approach fosters holistic thinking and encourages students to step into the shoes of the characters in the scenes.
Furthermore, the inclusion of visuals for inferencing and predicting using the same structure is a brilliant touch. This allows educators to seamlessly transition these essential skills to other contexts, enhancing the transfer of learning and promoting generalization.
The addition of a Google Slides™️ version of the cards further elevates the resource’s accessibility and adaptability. This version enables educators to effortlessly engage students during teletherapy sessions or share the activity digitally, bridging the gap between traditional and remote learning environments.
The resource’s comprehensive nature extends beyond the picture cards themselves. The inclusion of a cover for the picture deck, information on different types of inferential questions, and evidence-based teaching strategies underscores the author’s commitment to equipping educators with all the tools needed for successful instruction.
In conclusion, the “Target Perspective Taking and Making Inferences and Predictions Using Real Pictures” resource is a must-have for educators and speech-language pathologists aiming to cultivate critical thinking, perspective-taking, and inference-making skills. Its strategic structure, real-life picture cards, and supportive materials make it a powerhouse for language development and cognition enhancement. This resource is a testament to effective and engaging teaching, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow educators seeking to empower their students with essential life skills.

This is a good resource that I am beginning to use with a highly verbal student on the autism spectrum to help him with perspective-taking. It is also something I am beginning to use with students with language delays and who are reluctant to talk. It is less intimidating when there are no “right-or-wrong” answers (likely/unlikely, maybe). Students tend to respond well to real-life pictures.

Theresa H. –
First, thank you for making the pictures so multicultural. I have tried to update my materials to better reflect how my students actually look, and these cards are a great addition.
Second, I appreciate the variety of social situations- some lighthearted, some more emotional. Describe what you see, infer what you think is happening, predict what they will do next (or what they did right before that picture). We’ve been using the term “predict” more to help talk through social situations, and it is helpful.

I’ll admit that I haven’t used this exactly as the author has recommended- but I love the images to introduce the concept of reading comprehension strategies such as making inferences, asking questions, etc. I work with students who struggle with reading, so starting with images help us use our thinking skills and language skills to practice first, and it makes it easier when we apply these skills to the written language. I also sometimes use these images during writing lessons to help students come up with description sentences, etc.

Excellent Session Starter!
I begin all of my elementary sessions with either one of these slides or a slide from the One sheet Real Picture Describing set. Both resources are highly recommended! When using the inferencing & Predicting slides, I am able to target many different language concepts, not just the excellent target prompts on the screen. Younger groups may be asked more basic WH questions. I do not exclude my artic groups. I can do quick check on fluency and artic generalization by allowing these students to answer the questions, too.
