While these sound-loaded scenes can be used to target everything from sentence-building to storytelling, they were created to target complex clusters at the word, phrase, sentence, and carryover levels.
The scenes target the following 3 element complex clusters: skr, skw, spl, spr, and str
There are 8 unique and engaging scenes included in a Boom Cards™️ format.
If you love these scenes, you’ll love the full resource which includes 450 scenes or the complete bundle of 450 scenes (for blends, vocalic R, and other speech sound targets). Click here to learn more!

Tiny Talkers SLP –
LOVE the search and find format for clusters.
Creative Speech Therapy –
Wonderful scene work for clusters!
Sandra White –
Exactly what my therapy room needed!
Casey C. –
Used these during summer speech camp with my older students and they were a favorite. The complex cluster targets are just right for kids who have moved past basic blend work and need that next challenge. Very well designed scenes.
Gina I. –
I have several students targeting /str/ and /spl/ on my caseload this year and these scenes have become our main practice activity. The kids compete to see who can find the most target words in each scene, which gives them tons of reps without it feeling like drill.
Cindy W. –
Nice work on these cluster scenes!
Jane E. –
Colorful, fun, and effective.
Emily –
When I started my CF I had no idea how to make complex cluster practice engaging. This resource solved that problem completely. My students look forward to the scene searches and I feel confident that they are getting quality practice at the right level.
Jill K. –
I use this with my 3rd and 4th graders who are ready for complex clusters after mastering their basic blends. The transition from single blends to three element clusters can be tough but these scenes make the practice motivating and the kids feel successful.
Emma K. –
My SPED students who work on speech sounds with the SLP now have something they can use with me in the classroom too. I put the scenes at a station and my students search for their target cluster words independently. It is great reinforcement.
Martha Davis –
Downloaded and used the same day. Love it!
Victoria Y. –
Really impressed with the quality!
Diane I. –
I needed something to help my students generalize their complex clusters into more natural speech. The scene format is perfect for that because the kids find the words and then we build sentences and stories about what is happening in the picture.
Lauren Peterson –
I like the concept a lot and my students enjoy the search and find aspect. The scenes are well illustrated. I am giving 4 stars because I went through the freebie scenes faster than I expected with my group, but I am definitely considering buying the full set now.
Speech Spark Studio –
Beautiful scenes and great targets!
Janet Y. –
I picked this up for my upper elementary students and it has been a wonderful addition to my materials. The scene format makes complex cluster practice feel like a hidden picture game, and my students get so many practice repetitions without even noticing.
Christina O. –
Just wanted to say one of the few resources that actually targets three element clusters well. I have a student who has been working on /skr/ and /skw/ and he loved searching through the scenes for words with those sounds. It was the most engaged I have ever seen him in therapy.
Carolyn M. –
Excellent scenes for cluster practice.
Kayla C. –
Downloading the full bundle next!
Cindy K. –
Super helpful for /spr/ targets!
Vanessa Y. –
My students literally cheer for these.
Donna I. –
These scenes are a breath of fresh air for articulation therapy. I have been doing this for over 10 years and my students working on complex clusters always hit a plateau with traditional materials. The scene format gives them a reason to use the words in context and I have noticed faster progress as a result.
Tina E. –
Purchased the full set after trying this. Each scene has so many embedded complex cluster words that my students can spend an entire session on one scene and still find new targets. The quality is consistent throughout.
Lindsay G. –
I specialize in articulation in my private practice and this resource has earned a permanent spot in my rotation. The complex cluster focus is exactly what my older clients need and the scenes are detailed enough to keep them interested session after session.
Chelsea E. –
I used these with my mixed articulation group this week. One student was searching for /str/ words while another looked for /spl/ in the same scene. It made group therapy so much easier and everyone stayed on task the whole time.
Robin –
Well done, love the scene format.
Laura –
Finally a dedicated complex cluster resource that actually works. My students who have mastered basic /s/ blends needed something more challenging and this fits the bill perfectly. The scene based approach keeps them from getting bored.
Joanne Kelly –
These are wonderful, thank you!
Lisa G. –
My students beg to do the scene searches!
Dana S. –
I have been wanting to write this review for a while because I think more people need to know about this resource. I work at a large elementary school with a heavy caseload and I have a handful of students each year who are ready to move on to complex three element clusters but I could never find enough dedicated materials for that level. These scenes changed that completely. The illustrations are appealing to my 3rd through 5th graders without being too young, and each scene is loaded with cluster targets in natural contexts. I use them for everything from word level practice to storytelling and sentence building. My students working on /str/ went from about 40% accuracy in conversation to over 75% since we started incorporating these scenes. The Boom Cards option has also been great for my students who prefer digital. This is easily one of my top 5 TpT purchases ever.
Erica G. –
These scenes are really fun to use!
Erica O. –
I was just thinking I needed more cluster materials and then I found this. The scene format makes it feel like a game to my 3rd graders and they don’t even realize how many practice reps they are getting in. Definitely reccommend.
Coastal Speech Services –
We use these in our clinic for students working on advanced sound combinations. The scenes provide excellent context for practicing clusters at multiple levels, from single words to connected speech. Parents have given us positive feedback too.
Nancy C. –
I keep this in my bag for travel between schools. The scenes are self contained so I don’t need a bunch of extra materials. Just pull out a scene and my students jump right into finding the complex cluster words. So easy and effective.
Rebecca U. –
Awesome resource for advanced blends!
Melanie Martin –
Wow, i run a private practice and complex clusters are one of those areas where I always felt like I was scraping together materials. Having dedicated scenes for /str/, /spl/, /spr/, /skr/, and /skw/ has made my sessions more organized and effective.
Rachel Davis –
Well made and very engaging.
Linda O. –
Perfect scenes for /str/ and /spl/!
Kerry Y. –
Just started my CF and I was nervous about planning for students on complex clusters. This resource took a lot of the stress out of session planning. I just pull up a scene and we go. My supervisor was impressed with how well the sessions went.
Jodie Peterson –
My kids love finding hidden words!
Martha –
After 25 years of practice I can say that good complex cluster resources are hard to come by. This one nails it. The scenes are engaging, the targets are thoughtfully embedded, and it works well for both individual and group sessions.
Diana –
I teach special education and several of my students have IEP goals for complex clusters. The SLP shared this resource with me and now I use the scenes during independent work time. My students enjoy searching for the target words and it gives them extra pratice outside of their speech sessions.
Ashley U. –
I was looking for something to use with my older students who are bored of flashcards and this was exactly the right fit. The scenes feel age appropriate for 4th and 5th grade, and the complex cluster targets are spot on for where they are in therapy.
Christine C. –
Good concept and execution. Wish there was a black and white option for printing.
Angela O. –
Finally a resource for complex clusters!
Shelley I. –
This has become a cornerstone of my articulation therapy for students working on complex clusters. I have been using it for several months now and the results speak for themselves. My 4th and 5th graders are making faster progress on /str/ and /spr/ than they were with traditional drill approaches. The scene format gives them a reason to say the words in context rather than in isolation, and that has translated to better generalization in conversation. I also love the Boom Cards version for my teletherapy sessions. The digital format works great on screen and keeps students focused. I have already purchased the full 450 scene bundle because I went through these so quickly. Cannot say enough good things about how well designed these are for the specific purpose of complex cluster practice.
Liz K. –
I have used a lot of artic scene resources and these stand out for how well they target the complex clusters specifically. It is clear that the creator put thought into making sure each scene had plenty of /str/, /spl/, or /spr/ words built in naturally.
Cindy Y. –
Easy prep and the kids love it.
Crystal O. –
Tried the scenes today, big hit!
Courtney S. –
I appreciate that this resource goes beyond basic blends. There are so many /s/ blend materials out there but almost nothing for the more complex three element clusters. This fills a real gap in my therapy materials and my students respond really well to the scene format.
Michelle –
Quick, engaging, and on target!
SLP Adventures –
These are really well made!
Danielle A. –
One of the few resources I have found that specifically targets complex three element clusters in a fun format. My students who have moved past basic /s/ blends into /str/ and /spr/ territory finally have something engaging to work with.
Darlene –
The scenes are cute and functional. I docked one star because I would have preferred a few more per cluster type.
Carolyn Moore –
I run a private practice and parents are always asking what they can do at home. These scenes are perfect to send home as homework because the kids can search for words independently and the parents can listen for accurate productions.
Colleen C. –
Just what I needed for complex cluster work. I have a group of 4th graders who are all at that stage and these scenes keep them engaged without feeling too young. The variety of cluster targets covered is really helpful.
Sunshine Speech –
Grabbed this for my /spr/ students!
Brittany I. –
Fun scenes, easy to use!
Kathleen –
I need to write a full review because this resource deserves it. I have been a school SLP for 16 years and complex clusters are always the last frontier for my artic students. After they master their singleton sounds and basic blends, we hit a wall with materials for three element clusters. This set of scenes has completely changed how I approach that stage of therapy. Each scene is carefully designed with multiple /str/, /spl/, /spr/, /skr/, and /skw/ words embedded in context. My students love the search and find format because it feels like a game rather than drill. I use it at the word level for some students and at the sentence and carryover level for others. The Boom Cards option is perfect for my remote days. If you work with students on complex clusters, just get this. You won’t regret it.
Debbie U. –
Good scenes with nice illustrations. I would love it if there were a progress monitoring sheet included to track which cluster words each student has mastered, but the scenes themselves are very useful.
Jenna Y. –
I am in my CF year and finding appropriate materials for students working on three element clusters was something I really struggled with. This resource has been a lifesaver. The scenes are engaging, the targets are clear, and my supervisor even commented on how well the activites went.
Christina S. –
Tried this with my upper elementary group and they were way more engaged than I expected. The scene based format is a nice change of pace from drill sheets and the complex cluster targets are exactly what my students needed.
Creative Speech Therapy –
I sell on TpT too and I just want to say this is a really well crafted resource. The scene approach for complex clusters is something I have not seen done well elsewhere. It makes a typically dry skill feel interactive and fun.
Theresa O. –
Engaging and well organized!
Amy U. –
This has been a wonderful addition to my therapy materials. I work with several students on complex clusters and before this resource I was making my own materials which took forever. Now I just pull up a scene and we get right to practice.
Maureen Y. –
I needed something specifically for /spl/ and /str/ practice and this delivered. The scenes are bright and interesting and my students actually want to keep looking for more words even after we have found the main targets.
Donna C. –
Good quality scenes and useful for cluster work. I would have liked a few more scenes per cluster, but what is included is solid and my students enjoy the search and find format.
Susan Y. –
Have been using these scenes for a few weeks now and they keep my students focused and practicing. The format is like a hidden picture game which the kids love. Works for /str/, /spl/, /spr/, /skr/ and /skw/ which covers all my cluster kids.
Andrea Henderson –
Excellent for three element clusters!
Rebecca C. –
Tried the /spr/ scenes this week with my therapy group and they were a hit. One student found 8 words on his own before I even gave any prompts. The visual context of the scenes really supports independent word finding and I love that.
Tiffany –
This is my first year as an SLP and I was feeling really overwhelmed trying to find good materials for complex clusters. This made my life so much easier. The scenes are ready to go and my students are actually enjoying the practice.
Melissa U. –
The /str/ scenes are BEST I have found.
Jessica E. –
I use these with my caseload of mostly 3rd through 5th graders and the complex cluster scenes are perfect for their level. They have already mastered single sounds and basic blends so they need this next step. The scenes provide great context for naturalistic practice.
Marilyn W. –
Fun scenes, my students ask for more!
Maria Q. –
Great for my mixed artic groups.
Language Ladder –
As a fellow creator I appreciate the level of detail here. The scenes are loaded with targets and the progression from word to phrase to sentence level is really well structured. My students have responded so positively to these.
Joan C. –
Used this today and it went great!
Nina Q. –
Such a creative way to target clusters.
Kristen U. –
Printed, laminated, and in my therapy bin!
Frances Kelly –
I have been working in schools for 8 years and complex clusters are always the hardest to find materials for. These scenes make practice feel less like work and more like a fun activity. My students who struggle with /spr/ especially have benefited.
Valerie W. –
As a school based SLP I am always on the lookout for materials that work well with my upper elementary and middle school students. So many artic resources feel too young for them, but these scenes hit the right level. The complex clusters (/str/, /spl/, /spr/) are exactly what my older students need to work on, and the scene format keeps them engaged in a way that word lists and flashcards just cannot. I have seen real improvement in generalization since adding these to my therapy routine. The Boom Cards version is also great for my students who prefer digital activities. Overall a really solid purchase and I will be looking at the full bundle next.
Leslie M. –
Bright, colorful, and full of targets!
Elena Jackson –
My 3rd graders loved these scenes!
Stacy I. –
Wonderful for targeting /skr/ and /skw/!
Vanessa Patel –
I use this in my private practice and both kids and parents love it. The scene format lets us work on clusters in a way that feels like a game. Parents can even use the scenes at home for extra practice between sessions.
Small Talk SLP –
I create TpT resources too and I have to say the quality of these scenes is really impressive. Each one is packed with targets and the illustrations are clear and appealing. My students request these scenes by name now.
Dorothy Y. –
Kids think they are playing I Spy!
Joanne E. –
I run mixed groups where one kid might be working on /str/ and another on basic /s/ blends. These scenes work for both because there are so many different targets embedded in each picture. Everyone stays busy and engaged.
The SLP Next Door –
Fellow TpT seller here. Just wanted to say this is a really creative approach to cluster practice. The scene based format is something I haven’t seen done this well before. Kudos on the design and the target selection.
Sara S. –
I have to say this is one of the best resources I have purchased for targeting complex clusters. I have a student in 5th grade who has been working on /str/ for a while now and was getting bored with traditional drill activities. When I pulled out these scenes, his whole attitude changed. He started searching the pictures and naming all the /str/ words he could find, then we built sentences about the scene. The carryover into conversation has been noticeable too because the scenes give him context to connect the words to. I also used it with another student working on /spl/ and she loved it just as much. The Boom Cards format is a bonus for my teletherapy days. Really well thought out product.
Crystal U. –
These scenes are really well done!
Robin U. –
I want to give a thorough review here because I think this resource really deserves the attention. I work in an elementary school with a caseload of about 50 students and I have several kids working on complex clusters like /str/, /spr/, and /spl/. Before I found this resource I was cobbling together my own materials because there just is not that much out there specifically for three element clusters. These scenes changed everything. Each scene is loaded with target words that the students find and practice at whatever level they are at, whether that is isolated words, phrases, or full sentences. The illustrations are engaging without being too young for my 4th and 5th graders, which is always a concern. I also love that I can use the same scene with multiple students targeting different clusters. It has made my mixed groups run so much smoother.
Angela G. –
Printed these and laminated them!
Rebecca Q. –
GREAT for carryover practice!
Leslie A. –
I’ve been an SLP for 22 years and finding quality materials for complex clusters has always been tough. This fills that void nicely. The scenes are well illustrated and packed with targets. My students are actually excited to practice.
Tanya E. –
My group asked to do this again!
Sherry K. –
Nice resource for advanced blends!
Amanda –

Joan S. –

Jenny K. –
Definitely adding this to my go to pile.
Lori –
I bought the full resource after trying this freebie and it was totally worth it. The variety of scenes keeps things fresh and my students working on /spr/ and /str/ have shown real progress since we started using them.
Sandra Smith –
As a SPED teacher I am always looking for ways to reinforce what the SLP is working on. These scenes are engaging enough that my students will do them independently at their desk and I can hear them practicing their cluster words while they search.
Nancy K. –
Used it this week, kids loved it!
Sharon A. –
Really appreciate having materials for complex clusters specifically. Most artic resources stop at two element blends and my students who need three element cluster practice were always left without enough materials. This fills that gap.
Ellen Y. –
I have a couple of students who are working on generalization of /str/ into conversation and these scenes have been so helpful for that. Instead of just saying isolated words they are using the scenes to build sentences and tell stories.
Vicki W. –
I tried these with my teletherapy sessions and they work really well on screen. The students can point to the cluster words they find and then practice at the word, phrase, and sentence level. Nice progression built in.
Sherry O. –
Terrific for targeting /skr/ words in context.
Casey G. –
Engaging and age appropriate.
Frances E. –
Works great with the Boom Cards!

Bridget M. –
Needed this for my /spl/ group, perfect!
Robin I. –
These scenes are so much fun!
Jana O. –
Used these scenes with my 3rd and 4th grade group working on complex clusters and they were all engaged the whole time. Finding the hidden targets in the scenes feels like a game to them. Really well thought out.
Dorothy K. –
Pretty good resource. Would be helpful to have an answer key for each scene.
Renee Turner –
Colorful scenes, kids stayed focused.
Rachel W. –
Great for /str/ and /spr/ practice!
Maria E. –

Brenda Y. –
LOVE the illustrations in these scenes.
Kari E. –
My students think it’s like a treasure hunt!
Lindsay O. –
I have been searching for good complex cluster materials for my 5th graders and this is exactly what I was looking for. The scenes give them context for the words which makes practice feel more natural and less like a worksheet.
Caitlin Peterson –
These are awesome for carryover practice.
Maureen R. –
Downloaded and used it immediately!
Jodi Q. –
Nice scenes. I just wish there were a couple more /skw/ options since that is a tricky one for my students.

Liz O. –
Good resource overall. Would love to see even more scenes per cluster type.

Vicki K. –
Well designed and easy to use.

I pulled this out for my mixed group where some kids are working on /str/ and others on /spr/ and it worked perfectly. Everyone was looking at the same scene but finding different target words. Highly functional design.
Sue Y. –
Finally something for students who have mastered their basic blends and are ready for more complex combinations. The scenes are colorful and engaging and my upper elementary students actually look forward to speech now.
Angela –
My 4th graders are obsessed with these.

Fun and functional for three element clusters.
