Work on social problem solving scenarios with this fun, detective themed game focusing on cause and effect, context clues, predictions, inferencing and deductive reasoning. This product includes 120 clue cards perfect for working on causes and effects of common social problems, with follow up questions to work on perspective taking and finding solutions.
Here’s what’s inside:
- What Might Happen Next? – 30 cause and effect cards. Students try to guess what will happen next. For example, “Your mom forgets about the cookies while they are baking”.
- Guess My Word! – 30 cards with a mystery word and 3 hints. Students try to guess the word by asking questions. There is an included visual of possible questions for this activity as well.
- Clue Hunt! – 30 cards with 5 clues on each and an answer. For example, “It’s a thing. It’s tall and thin. It has a hole in the middle. It goes in drinks. You suck through it. Answer: straw”. Try to guess the answer before you get through all of the clues.
- What Happened Here? – 30 cause and effect cards. The opposite of the first activity. Students try and guess what happened first to lead to the outcome on the card.
- Homework – 10 homework sheets are provided for cause/effect and guessing an object after clues are given. For example, ‘fruit, yellow, peels open’. 2 blank sheets are included for your customization.
- Game Board and foil cards
Just print, laminate, and you’re ready for a quick and fun small group session!

Sarah M. –
I use this product a lot, and the sessions I use it in are always fun for everyone (I really enjoy the games we play with it).
I have found it very helpful with children who have higher level language difficulties, particularly children whose difficulty with language seems to stem from word retrieval who have trouble interpreting larger blocks of spoken language because they can’t hold one sentence in their mind while they process the next one.
This sort of problem solving activity seems to work as an effective building block for that skill.
Nicole Kennedy –

Speech Paths –
There are so many terrific things about this product! I love the posters provided for each section to serve as visual reminders for students. Not including pictures in the “Guess My Word” and “Clue Hunt” activities was a great idea, especially since my students rely too heavily on visual clues, often getting stuck on what the picture presents (e.g., a picture of a brown dog usually yields “it’s brown”). It’s helpful that this section also reinforces grammatical class by providing reference to “person/place/thing”. I’ll use these activities to reinforce the EET as well! And homework pages–how great! Very well organized packet! Thank you for putting this together!
Kerry S. –
Have a ton of language kids next year. Can’t wait to use these.
Janne N. –
Very useful, thank you.
rebaak01 –
Love this packet so much! The kids just love clues and figuring out the word that is being described. I even have switched it up a bit to them describing so we can try to play headbanz because they don’t usually answer my questions correctly so I usually get them wrong, when they should have been right, because they didn’t know that an ant was an insect! LOL
Happy Summertime! This was a great “Must have”!
