One of my very favorite speech therapy toys is the Fisher Price Piggy Bank.
Several of my youngest students LOVE playing with this toy. I love it too, especially for targeting core vocabulary words such as in, out, open, close, put, go, play, on, off, stop, mine, etc.. It’s incredibly motivating! While there are animals on the coins already, many of my students were having trouble seeing them! So of course, I made my own labels!
I made labels to target:
-actions
-basic nouns
-summer vocabulary
-adjectives
-body parts
-emotions
There are 10 coins for each topic, 5 larger and 5 smaller. See some examples below:
If you’re wondering how I attach them, read on! I’m obsessed. I used Aleene’s Tack It. I put a small dot on the plastic coin and let it dry overnight.
I did this on both sides! Then I printed, laminated, and cut the coins. When you stick the labels on using Aleene’s Tack It, you can remove and replace the labels easily forever and ever!
Once you’re done playing, it all fits back into the pig just like normal! I keep my extra labels in a pile with a paperclip around them in the pig for easy storage.

Shannon, you are unstoppable! Couldn’t keep up with you even when you were a grad student! Thanks for all the support to our little SLP community!

You are too kind, Marge! I miss you!! I’ll have to stop by sometime soon. My house is SO close to the clinic!

Thank you! I have this pig but haven’t added pictures to it. I do something similar with juice cans lids. Then the kids drop them into a baby formula can. They love to hear the clink of metal on metal. They also work perfectly with the magnet on the fishing pole!

What a great idea!!

Shannon… My language lab kiddos are loving the pigs! I bought extra coins so I could add more pics… will you be doing any more coin pics? 🙂
Shannon
That’s great! I can add this idea to my update list (which I typically tackle in the summer months). Thanks for the idea!
