SLP FAQ: Office Supplies

Slide1

As I’m sure many of you are, I’m OBSESSED with office supplies. I love back to school season because every store is filled with pretty new things. This is also the time of year where I get tons of questions on recommendations for office supplies. What printer would you recommend? Do you own your own laminator? Are the expensive sheets worth it? Where do you buy Velcro dots?

Below is how I do things. I’ve purchased many brands for pretty much all of these and have settled on these staple items/favorite brands. Hope this is helpful to many of you.

—Laminator—

I personally own the older version of the Scotch Thermal Laminator at home.

I will also mention that at work, we recently purchased the Amazon Basics laminator which is cheaper and so far, seems to work well.

—Laminating Pouches—

I used to purchase the Scotch brand of pouches, and still use them for some projects (especially smaller cards or things prone to peeling)…

However, since I’ve discovered the Amazon Basics Laminating Sheets, I only buy those because they are SO cheap. I haven’t had any difficulty with them yet!

—Printer(s)—

I have two printers at home (because why not?). The one I use the most is my super old HP LaserJet 1200. It only prints black and white and I found it at a garage sale for $5 with 3 mega cartridges of ink. I still haven’t had to buy more ink in 3 years!

When I want to print color, I use my HP OfficeJet Pro 6835 which I’ve been super happy with. I like this printer because it prints clearly and quickly, and you can replace individual color cartridges when they run out instead of having to replace all of them when one color runs out!

Check it out on Amazon.

—Ink—

I currently purchase all of my computer ink at Costco, however Amazon also has it for a reasonable price.

I buy a ton of ink at once and then keep them in Ziploc baggies by color so I always have some on hand.

—Velcro Dots—

Don’t buy Velcro dots anywhere else! There are the best of the best and a good value.

They come in big rolls in a baggie. These are mine when they are about 3/4 gone. I keep this in my work bag all the time because I’m really a Velcro addict.

—Pens—

I’m super picky when it comes to pens and love writing in color. Below are the ones I buy and love using, especially to color code my planner or my to-do lists.

—Computer—

I have an iMac desktop computer that holds all of my files and is perfect for opening multiple windows when creating products. I also have a super old MacBook and am looking to upgrade to a new Apple laptop in the coming weeks.

—Paper Cutter—

Maybe not a necessary office supply to some, but I use this when assembling products every single time. Super small, portable, and saves so much time. I also love it for cutting construction paper to 8.5×11 size so I can print on it.

—iPad Case—

My favorite case for use with kiddos is the Gripcase. I love its handles.

The only flaw it that it makes the iPad pretty huge so its not great for when I want to travel with my iPad.

Again, these are simply the materials I use (and love). They fit my needs well 🙂 What products do you use? Any similarities or differences? I’d love to hear your recommendations!

That cutter is the best! It requires a bit more pressure, but it cuts through laminated paper well! I haven’t tried it on laminated cardstock, though…

Could you please indicate what brand of velcro dots those are, and where you purchase them? Maybe I am missing it, but can not find a link or anything.

I know this is an old post but just wondering which paper cutter you use? I just bought you Phonology Cycles pack and am in need of a paper cutter for home office use and prep!
    Thanks!

I’d recommend both of these depending on which style you like best:

      2) http://amzn.to/2riGDI6
      Hope that helps!
